Forward Head Posture Syndrome

Patients often ask me, “How can I avoid neck pain?” And I tell them, “The fastest way to avoid neck pain is to stop looking in the mirror.” That usually goes over pretty well. But, on a more serious note, let’s take a moment to talk about neck pain. Consider just how much of our lives are spent in a forward head posture position. Reading, texting, and working on a computer have us stooped over with our heads bent forward. These and many other daily activities contribute to forward head posture (FHP) syndrome. Years of forward head posture activities cause our necks to straightened and lose its natural curvature. Why does that matter? Take two sticks, one is curved and one is straight. Place pressure on top of each stick and you will find that the curved one will bounce back under the pressure- while the straight one will snap in half. Maintaining the natural curvature of your neck is essential to properly distributing the ten-pound weight of your funny-looking head. Without an appropriate curve in your neck, the weight from your head adversely affects the joints of your neck, leading to pain and accelerated degeneration. Forward head posture syndrome is a common culprit of neck pain in society today. Chiropractic adjustments- through restoring proper neck movement- have been proven to restore the neck’s natural curve. Come in today to Everest Chiropractic to help us heal your neck, restore its curvature, and safe guard your neck from accelerated degeneration. Sorry, I can’t do anything about your face. You’re on your own for that one.

Over the course of your life, beginning from the time you were a baby, you have had hundreds of spills and falls, the cumulative effects of which have been building up over time, putting stress on your structural system. This stress continues to build, until one day you experience significant spinal pain. Receiving chiropractic care on a monthly basis is about staying well and preventing the stress on your spine from accumulating, causing you pain, and accelerating your spinal degeneration. Waiting until the pain sets in is like waiting until you have a cavity to brush your teeth for the first time, or even see a dentist.

Come in to Everest Chiropractic for monthly wellness care and ensure the health and optimal function of your spine. You only get one spine, and on average we are living to the ripe old age of nearly 80. Preserve your spine and mobility through regular chiropractic care.

Brushing your teeth might not be a bad idea either.

Don’t Sit for Long!

As we age, our spine naturally degenerates, but accelerated degeneration can be brought on through injury or lack of motion. Chiropractic works to both restore and maintain proper spinal motion.

It’s not just our spine that needs to keep moving, but our body as a whole. Sitting for prolonged periods has been shown to shorten one’s life span. Researchers found that the more hours you sit, the shorter you live. Doctors therefore recommend moving around for 1-2 minutes every 30 minutes of sitting in order to prevent the negative effects of sitting.

Attached you will find a mini workout that you can perform a few times a day to keep your blood flowing and your spine healthy. Keep in mind that even walking for just 2 minutes every 30 minutes of sitting will do your body wonders.
